Opinion By R. Al Bain
Don’t be fooled by the moderate left leaning liberal Republicans running for office who claim to be conservative and champion the views of the “Tea Party” movement for support. All one has to do is a little research to see right through them!
Michigan Film Subsidy: Michigan’s Business Comedy
“How to Lower Your Michigan Business Liability and Win an Oscar While You’re At It”
This is a must see short video by State Representative Chuck Moss explaining the failed film producers subsidies at taxpayer expense. I guess Senator Richardville must have missed his colleagues pre-release screening. I say that because Mr. Richardville recently introduced new legislation on July 13, 2011 Senate Bill 569 to revise the state film incentive program, converting it into a straightforward subsidy program rather than an indirect one, with awards of up to 30 percent of the expenses a film producer incurs in Michigan. Reportedly the bill’s sponsor wants to increase the subsidies from $25 million already appropriated in 2012 to $100 million annually.
Building Goodwill or how to get “Recognition” during a Re-Call
In the community section of the Monroe Evening News Saturday, August, 6, 2011 edition page 4B, a quarter page story and “Photo-Op” titled “Building Goodwill” it was all about Senator Randy Richardville. A photo op is an opportunity to take a memorable and effective photograph of a politician, a celebrity, or a notable event.
The term was coined by the administration of US President (I am not a crook) Richard Nixon. Even Jimmy Carter doesn’t deem it necessary to display his name when building homes for Habitat for Humanity. At least you see Jimmy with a hammer in his hand or actually working. Note the pictures, I can’t seem to see Mr. Richardville working! But I do see him displaying his campaign sign front and center! Wasn’t the election in 2010?
Something doesn’t look right with this story and these pictures! Why would he be holding a campaign sign after being elected almost a year earlier? Is the newspaper playing games or was this an advertising scheme bought and paid for by the Richardville committee in an attempt to garner favor with the voters during this re-call campaign against him?
Earlier this summer, a group of activist got wind that Snyder and Richardville were going to appear at a Habitat for Humanity home for a “photo op”. The group gathered there but neither of them showed up so they left the signs in their vehicles as to not take anything away from the good work done by the many people who actually did do something good for the community not just for publicity purposes!
Deadline is Met in Recall Effort
State Rep. Paul Scott, R-Grand Blanc will be on the November ballot as a result of re-call efforts. Organizers of the drive against Scott filed 12,200 signatures with the Secretary of State on Friday, nearly 2,600 more than required to get on the ballot. The extra signatures provide a cushion if some of the names are deemed invalid. We can only hope that others targeted who truly deserve to be re-called will be?
Governor Snyder’s China Connections a Threat?
Interesting read. An American Company, NeoPhotonics, Morph’s into a Chinese Company. It was well publicized during the election that Rick Snyder moved Gateway Computer’s manufacturing to China along with thousands of jobs but those were today’s jobs. He has also given China technology, developed by American companies and Universities that will give China the edge to compete for tomorrow’s jobs and is helping China build a superpower military. Mr. Snyder’s cozy relationship with U of M President Mary Sue Coleman and revelations by a former University Professor exposing technology secrets given to China by the way of the University of Michigan may give credence to this story?
Many Local Leaders say Michigan on Wrong Track
After lawmakers cut their funding and gave financial managers sweeping new powers earlier this year, half of local government leaders now think Michigan is on the wrong track, according to a survey released Thursday. Only a third said it’s headed in the right direction, while a fifth were undecided. The county administrators, mayors, city managers, township supervisors and other leaders surveyed by The Center for Local, State and Urban Policy at the University of Michigan also gave Republican Gov. Rick Snyder and the GOP-controlled Legislature poor marks.
Suburbs look to jump on board the Woodward Light Rail Project
Hold onto your wallets taxpayers, here comes another failed transit system to go along with the mass transit bus system we already have! I believe that the so-called leaders here in Michigan are living in fantasy land. Michigan is broke, unemployment remains in double digits ranking in the top five in the country with the highest unemployment rate according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics released on July 22, 2011. This system would certainly require a regional tax subsidy! The citizens would be downright foolish to support another “TAX INCREASE” as to subsidize another failed transit system through a regional tax.
Tamara Greene Lawsuit: Magistrate Says Detroit Destroyed Emails
Federal Magistrate Judge Steven Whalen said the City of Detroit destroyed evidence, intentionally purging the system of emails after the law department was ordered to preserve them in the Tamara Greene lawsuit. Whalen said, “It would be a gross understatement to say that the city acted in bad faith.” “It’s a very special day,” said Norman Yatooma.
Groups Call For Pro-Romney Super PAC Mystery Donation Investigation
Reform groups filed an official complaint and request for investigation on Friday against the company that gave a $1 million donation to a pro-Mitt Romney group then subsequently dissolved. An investigation should be done here in Michigan with some of our legislators campaign finances as well!
American Tax Payer Dollars Funding Mosques Overseas – WSB-TV in Atlanta
The Federal governments State department is funding mosques overseas in countries that are sponsoring terrorism, even providing Internet services in some cases and we, the American tax payers are footing the bill for this. Are you kidding me? If this does not anger you to get rid of this hopelessly naive administration, then God help you!
The Debt Ceiling Deal an Agreement to do Nothing
Last week, the federal government utterly failed to produce the debt ceiling deal that the American people deserve. Instead, Republicans and Democrats came together, realized that real economic reforms would require politically difficult compromises, and agreed to do nothing except promise to work on it later.
