Doctors and Economist Warn Trump Coronavirus Great Depression

History has shown that when a Democrat elected President dating back to the Great Depression era has been elected after a Republican President who presided over a economic depression or recession basically saved this country and brought it back from the brink.

History and historical facts prove this to be factual and one could follow these events and argue that the Republican policies contributed to the economic problems during these events.

The great depression started under Republican Herbert Hoover who held office during the onset of the Great Depression and held office from March 4, 1929 – March 4, 1933.

March 4 1929: Herbert Hoover became president. His laissez-faire economic policies did little to stop the Depression. He believed a free-market economy would allow the forces of capitalism to fix any economic downturn. As a result, he lowered the top income tax rate from 25% to 24%. The crowds on Wall Street, New York, after the stock exchange crashed.

June 17 1930: Hoover signed the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, which raised taxes on 900 imports. It originally was supposed to help farmers but ended up imposing tariffs on hundreds of other products. Other countries retaliated, setting off a trade war. As a result, international trade began to collapse. Dolly Gann (L), sister of U.S. vice president Charles Curtis, helps serve meals to the hungry at a Salvation Army soup kitchen on December 27, 1930.

February 1931: Food riots broke out in Minneapolis. The economy shrank 6.4%. The unemployment rate rose to 15.9%. Prices fell another 9.3%. People began to suffer the worst effects of the Great Depression. A line of men wait outside a soup kitchen opened by mobster Al Capone, Chicago, Illinois, February 1931.

June 27 1934: The Federal Housing Administration provided federal mortgage insurance. The Securities and Exchange Commission regulated the stock market. The FCC consolidated all federal regulation of telephone, telegraph, and radio communications. The economy grew 10.8% in response to the New Deal Programs. Unemployment fell to 21.7%. Prices rose 1.5%. The debt rose to $27 billion. Men stand in long lines for free food.

March 1937: A billboard, sponsored by the National Association of Manufacturers, on Highway 99 in California during the Depression. It reads ‘There’s no way like the American way’ and ‘world’s highest standard of living’.

My personal view of the Trump administrations handling of the Coronavirus Pandemic especially Trump wanting to end restrictions is horrifying and misguided to say the least.

You have the medical community and scientist all saying this is a huge mistake. The Republican Lt Governor of Texas says he is with Trump on ending restrictions even before the virus has peaked!

What has happened so far even if the virus is gone tomorrow it will still have a huge impact on the economy for many many weeks, months and maybe years to come.

We have now had the economy shut down for weeks already with many businesses closed down with mass layoffs that in the weeks to come will show a huge spike in unemployment numbers and loss of production throughout this country. A look at history proves this to be the case.

There is so much that we can’t foresee going forward of the impact to the economy, not being considered at this point. There will be bankruptcies with businesses and homeowners’ losing their homes the likes we haven’t seen since the Great Depression and might even be worse.

The novel Coronavirus will devastate the global economy, and failure to rein it in risks a worse downturn than the Great Depression, economist Nouriel Roubini warned in a Project Syndicate column on Tuesday.

“The best economic outcome that anyone can hope for is a recession deeper than that following the 2008 financial crisis,” the professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business said.

Roubini argued the pandemic’s fallout in three weeks has surpassed the economic toll of the financial crisis and the Great Depression over three years.

Coronavirus Economic Damage is ‘Worse even than the Great Depression’
The Great Depression vs. Coronavirus Recession: 3 Metrics That Will Determine How Much Worse It Can Get

As the United States enters recession territory and investors say goodbye to an 11-year bull market, comparisons to the Great Depression—the worst economic downturn in American history—are inevitable, but how does that comparison actually stack up?

Peak unemployment during the Great Depression reached a staggering 24.9% in 1933, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics; in 1929, just four years prior, unemployment was just 3.2%. Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis President James Bullard told Bloomberg that the U.S. unemployment rate could hit 30% next quarter.

Mass layoffs have already started prior to this Pandemic with the Trump trade wars and his tariffs’ here in Michigan with the permanent closure of two U.S. Steel plants in Ecorse and River Rouge has cost thousands of good paying jobs for Michigan citizens.

A1 Tough Talk With Taros

Analysis of 12 Dissenting Republicans on Tax Cuts

Houston we have a real big government problem here in Michigan. I am in contact with current and former legislators who are not happy with what they see is going on in Lansing. To borrow a “Dick” Snyder term this is very “divisive” indeed.

We have witnessed of late the rewards given to “termed out” legislators who carry the “Dick” Snyder water with government appointments once they leave office. This practice is so wrong on many levels. Continue reading below the PIC. Analysis 12 Dissenting Republicans

Snyder said he still has $1 Billion dollars worth of concerns about an income tax cut but I will bet dollars to doughnuts that if the Bill to give certain developers $1.8 Billion taxpayer dollars worth of subsidies that the Senate just passed reaches his desk he will sign it.

Snyder talks about long-term planning for the budget with fiscal responsibility all the while as ex-chairman of the “failed” MEDC continues giving his business buddies tax breaks after tax breaks and taxpayer funded subsides all under the guise of job creation that studies have shown never materialize.

These former and current accountants (bean counters) such as Snyder and VanSingel will spin numbers like a casino operator spins the wheel where it’s always in their favor. It is clear to me VanSingel is looking ahead to a future appointment feeding at the public trough. He appreciates Snyder’s “laser focused” big government style. Oh my…

As far as Lt. Gov. Brian Calley and his wife Julie, she should have never been elected in the first place. In my view there is definitely a conflict of interest going on when family members serve the people together at the same time.

I have seen many family members who have served at the same time here in Michigan over the years and I just don’t believe that is right. A few examples: former Senate majority leader Randy Richardville along with his uncle Senator Roger Kahn, the Stamas brothers Jim and Tony, the Kowall husband and wife “team” Mike and Eileen.

Current Speaker Tom Leonard’s wife Jenell is head of the Michigan Film Office. In spite of the film subsidies’ being cut out in Michigan the Film office has been rolled into the MEDC stable of UN-elected entities.

Those who voted against the plan said it was their position they could not vote for a $1 billion hit to the state’s budget it will be interesting to see how they vote on the Bill to give certain developers $1.8 Billion dollars worth of subsidies that the Senate just passed when it goes to the House for a vote!

For the most part George Carlin was absolutely correct when he said, “it’s just a big “club” and we citizens aren’t it.” It’s the lobbyist and special interest that rule the day in Lansing not the citizens who elected a majority of these legislators.

Trumped: Analysis 2017 MIGOP Convention

The Grand Old Party is still run by the Old Guard Cronies and Corrupt GOP Trumped
In Michigan, the first GOP state convention was held this weekend since the election of Donald Trump.

Just as conventions in the past, it was predictable; with some of the same tedious fanfare and general disinterest.

However, there were a couple of differences; the celebration of a Republican elected as President of the US, and the Michigan GOP Chairwoman being selected to head the RNC.

The congratulations were plentiful, and the delegates bathed in their victory, while singing the praises of their leadership.

Repeatedly, they were told the victories were attributed to the “hard work” of the grassroots and the effectiveness of the leadership; the same leadership that was divided during the primaries and even after Trump’s nomination.

Ironically, the event included a video collage displayed on the big screen showing liberal politicians, entertainers, and media pundits who said Trump would NEVER win the nomination, let alone the presidency. Absent in the video was any of the key Republicans and conservative media pundits who said the EXACT SAME THING.

The harsh reality is…Trump would have won the election, regardless of what leadership did or did not do. During the campaign, several key GOP leadership members, publicly and/or privately, vehemently criticized Trump, swore to NEVER support him, or even hoped for a way to replace him as the nominee.

And yet, despite all the disunion, Trump prevailed and the party leadership was all too ready to soak up the credit; and the delegates were just as quick to rain it down on them. Nothing could be less deserving.

Trump won despite the actions of the GOP leadership. His message was a clear departure from what the GOP ever wanted delivered by their nominee and many had even surrendered any hope of him winning. They were wrong. They said he would never be the nominee. They were wrong. They said he wouldn’t get the support of independents. They were wrong.

Nevertheless, there is a portion of the Republican delegates who believe the reason Trump won is because the Democrats had a worse candidate. That might be the one thing they got right.

Based on the numerous times of being wrong, how could anyone find the leadership of the GOP even credible? Trump didn’t win because he is a champion of smaller government or represents more freedom, fidelity to the Constitution, peace in the Middle East, and an improved economy. He won because he is a big “screw you” to the leadership of BOTH parties. So why should anything leadership recommends be trusted? It shouldn’t.

Until the party leadership openly accepts real change from the grassroots, and begins to do what is necessary to protect that new brand, it will be business as usual. RINOS will continue to lead, corruption will remain within state and federal government, taxpayers will continue to bear the cost, and the politicians will maintain their business and government money alliance.

Michigan Dead Last in Transparency Ethics
The study, a year-long collaboration between the Center for Public Integrity and Global Integrity, concluded that state government nearly everywhere suffers from “pervasive secrecy, weak oversight and questionable ethics.”

“State governments are plagued by conflicts of interests and cozy relationships between lawmakers and lobbyists, while open-records and ethics laws are often toothless and laced with exemptions,” Read More…….

But what lead to Michigan coming in dead last? According to the study:
A significant factor in Michigan’s 2015 ranking is its lack of effective disclosure rules for officials in nearly all facets of state government. Conflicts of interest and potential public corruption remain buried in an honor system with no honor.

Thanks to loopholes created by the legislature, big spenders representing special interests can dramatically influence an election without leaving a trace.”

Gov. Rick Snyder Starts New PAC
The “nerd” has started a new Political Action Committee to support state and federal candidates who share “his” vision and not the vision of the citizens. This new PAC, “The Relentless Progressive Action PAC will support candidates and elected officials who are good loyal establishment Republicans who are willing to go along to get along.

One of the PAC priorities for the “GoverNerd’” include education reform and a P-20 education approach which is a data collection scheme of our school children an important aspect of the common core standards.

One has to wonder if Snyder’s former chief of staff Dennis Muchmore will show up as a key player within this new PAC? You also have to wonder if Snyder’s former press secretary Sara Wurfel will also show up along with her husband Brad Wurfel former director of communications for the DEQ (Flint Water Crisis) who either resigned or was fired depends on who you talk to on that. Bailout for DPS up Next for Michigan Taxpayers

It would appear that $195 Million “Bailout” just wasn’t quit enough it was just the starting point. Within 10 hours of these articles the backroom deals must have been cut? Bailout DPS Cotter Money Snyder

Anybody think this has something to do with the lawsuit that was awarded that the DPS is on the hook for? Throw in all the other liabilities’ and debt into the mix and sure looks like us taxpayer’s will pony up yet again!

AG Schuette OKs school taxes for new Red Wings arena says it’s Constitutional
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette quietly issued an opinion that said state taxes for schools can legally be used to fund the arena’s construction.

So this is Constitutional for the taxpayers of Michigan to fund one of the riches people in the state as listed by Forbes? Oh my….

Gov. Snyder wants the Legislature to offer DPS up to an additional $72 million a year from Michigan Taxpayers!  Snyder faces a tough challenge in getting the money for Detroit from the School Aid Fund as he planned.

It’s no wonder when money from that fund went to building the new “Red Wings Arena” with AG Schuette writing an opinion saying it was Constitutional to do so. Wake up people you are being taken by the Republicans who have complete and total control in Lansing!

Schuette Opinion: Use of tax revenue and public money for development

STATE OF MICHIGAN BILL SCHUETTE, ATTORNEY GENERAL OPINION
It is my opinion, therefore, that the Michigan Strategic Fund’s proposal to provide funds from the Michigan Community Revitalization Program for the purpose of assisting in the demolition of the Joe Louis Area after completion of the new arena at the Detroit Events Center does not violate section 88c(3)(a) of the MSF Act, which prohibits the use of such funds for the development of a stadium or arena for use by a professional sports team.  ~ Attorney General BILL SCHUETTE

Here is what the Michigan State Constitution says.
Article 9, § 11 of the Michigan Constitution established a State School Aid Fund funded by various tax revenues, and provides in part: There shall be established a state school aid fund which shall be used “exclusively” for aid to school districts, higher education, and school employees’ retirement systems as provided by law.

Michigan House Republicans Vote to Increase Your Taxes

House passes sweeping roads plan raising gas tax and vehicle registration fees. Representative Lee Chatfield defended this increase on a Facebook post saying it was tax neutral. Most of the House Democrats voted against the bill.

The tax increases are offset by tax deductions, therefore making it tax neutral ~ Lee Chatfield. How can that be when the legislators took away what they are giving us back and calling it tax neutral?
http://www.freep.com/story/news/politics/2015/10/21/michigan-roads-repairs-potholes-legislature/74360028/

Part of Michigan’s business tax reform was that it wiped out the homestead property tax which hurt seniors and middle class citizens who could least afford it. All for the crony business buddies of the politicians who donate to their campaign coffers.

Michigan taxes: Businesses pay less, you pay more
How you’re paying more. For Michigan families, changes to tax credits and deductions have been deeply felt. Michigan’s individual income tax revenue jumped 25% between 2011 and 2012, a $1.4-billion increase. 2011 Biggest Michigan Tax Overhaul 380 X 234

The remainder of the increase can be explained by deductions and tax credits that were either eliminated or modified significantly. For millions of Michigan residents, these were experienced as tax increases.

They include: $270 million from a decrease in the homestead property tax credit. $240 million from cuts to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). $200 million from the pension tax changes. $50 million from the elimination of deductions for children. $50 million from the elimination of the special exemption for age and unemployment compensation. $90 million from elimination of other nonrefundable credits, such as city income tax, homeless/food bank contributions and contributions to public universities and public broadcasting.

The average taxpayer received half as much in credits in 2012 as in 2011. In addition, the new tax code freezes the individual income tax rate at 4.25%; before the changes, that rate was scheduled to drop 0.1 percentage point each year until it reached 3.9% in 2015. Republicans reneged on this.
http://www.freep.com/story/opinion/contributors/raw-data/2014/10/04/michigan-taxes-snyder/16683967/

Michigan Businesses get a $1.65 billion cut the citizens get to pay for it with tax increases! The difference is being made up with $1.42 billion in additional income taxes, which includes applying the tax to pensions and other retirement income. MIGOP 245 X 244

But making up for the revenue loss is more devastating to Michigan taxpayers and their families. One of the biggest income tax changes wipes out the Homestead Property Tax Credit, which has a $1,200 maximum, for households making more than $50,000 or those with homes with a taxable value of more than $135,000. The current income threshold is $82,650. The change affects some 268,500 tax filers.

Other changes were to the Michigan Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income wager earners would be reduced from 20 percent of the federal credit to 6 percent. That takes the average $430 state credit received by nearly 800,000 claimants down to $143.

After Detroit will Taxpayers be on the Hook again for a Flint “Bailout”

Michigan governor Rick Snyder said in January that he believed there were roughly 235 cities and towns in his state that were financially and functionally bankrupt. One of those towns is Flint, Michigan.

In the last three years, Flint’s finances have collapsed to the point that the city has had to lay off two-thirds of its police force.
http://www.businessinsider.com/what-happens-to-a-city-when-the-money-runs-out-2011-4

FLINT, Mich. (AP) — State officials pledged $2 million Tuesday for Flint’s troubled water system. http://www.elkharttruth.com/news/michigan/2015/02/04/State-plans-to-discuss-resources-to-help-Flint-improve-water.html Flint Michigan

Flint, Michigan is now plagued by Violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act only months after the city severed its water supply from the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD).

“During the course of the week or early next week we hopefully will be coming out with more taxpayer funded steps,” some of which are already under way, and others to be implemented, Snyder said. Sounds like code words for taxpayer funded “bailout” to me.
http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2015/09/29/snyder-state-action-coming-flint-water/73033462/

With the financial problems in Michigan’s other big cities such as Flint and others where does the taxpayer funded “bailouts” stop? Is this the real reason Lansing is hell bent on raising our taxes?

The rainy day fund to bail out all these communities will eventually run out of taxpayer money and I say that will be sooner rather than later. All these dead-end solutions will lead to a bigger intrusive government and the loss of even more Freedoms and Liberties for the citizens. Tax increases anyone?

While many so-called Republican legislators here in Michigan have called for Dave Agema’s resignation this whole attempt was orchestrated by a “hypocritical” former MIGOP chair with the “threat” of withholding funds to the RNC and MIGOP candidates. Betsey DeVos on Fox NewsMr. Agema, a staunch principled conservative who believes in the GOP platform and its planks was elected at the Detroit convention by an “overwhelming” majority of the MIGOP membership.

However, the Party elitist didn’t like that; they didn’t like that one bit. And ever since his election they have been hell bent on getting him ousted (Purged) and replaced with a more loyal establishment go a long to get along UN-principled “liberal” representative.

Enter the “Gang of Five” the major players in this attempted coup. While this “gang” has reached out to others with similar “threats” of who knows what whether financial support or committee assignments’ if they didn’t play ball in calling for his resignation and the fact remains they don’t care for the memberships choice!

Let’s take a closer look at the “Gang of Five’s” Purge Timeline shall we. Rience Priebus

Rience Priebus was told to eliminate Michigan’s Republican National Committeeman Dave Agema or Betsey DeVos would withhold a $750,000 donation from the RNC.

Could it be according to “unconfirmed” reports she has a gay son or close relative who is gay and didn’t appreciate the opposition to the gay agenda in spite of the GOP Platform?

Bobby Schosatk and Snyder asks Scott Walker to call for Mr. Agema’s resignation one day before an RNC meeting to put pressure on him to quit. Schostak Snyder WalkerSome of the RNC members ask Walker why he got involved in a State issue – Walker says, because Schostak and Snyder asked me to. He didn’t even know what the issue was!

Betsy DeVos decries Dave Agema’s so-called hate speech for his sharing of an article by former member of the United States House of Representatives, and retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel Allen West on social media. This despite Betsy’s and her families’ history of funding bigoted initiatives. BetsyDevos Hypocrite

No matter what side of the issue you’re on you need to evaluate both sides. The Republicans will never tell its membership what they don’t want them to know so how do you find out what that is?

When politicians speak it’s not what the right hand is saying it’s what the “left” hand is doing! “If you want to find out the dirt look to the left.”
